Finance Student, Athlete, and Nonprofit Founder

Sophie Greenfield's Headshot

My name is Sophie Greenfield, and I am currently 21 years old. I currently go to the University of Miami, where I am majoring Finance and Entrepreneurship and have a minor in Sports Administration. I grew up in New York City for the first 13 years of my life before my family moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where I spent the next six years. At 19, I started my college career at the University of Miami, and now I split my time between Florida and New York, and I am a snowbird in the making. No matter where I have ended up, every city has added something to who I am.

Love for Sports

Sports have always been a constant in my life, through every city, chapter, and up and down I have been through. Basketball has always been my favorite for as long as I can remember, but I played competitive softball and lacrosse when I was younger, traveling across the country to compete with my team. In seventh grade, I was ranked in the top 50 in the state of New York in lacrosse, which is still something I am really proud of. I love anything that keeps me moving, competing, and being part of a team.

When I am not playing sports, I am watching them, especially football. During NFL season, my Sundays are dedicated to seven hours of NFL RedZone, and I would not have it any other way. As I have gotten older, weightlifting has become something I cannot imagine my life without. I go to the gym about five days a week and have found it to so beneficial for my mental health. Whenever I get the chance, I also play intramural soccer, basketball, and flag football at the University of Miami with my friends.

Interest in Business and Current Events

With my dad working on Wall Street and my grandfather always keeping up with current events relating to business, finance, and worldwide events, I have always been surrounded by these topics from a young age. These conversations happened at the dinner table, on car rides, and everywhere in between, so staying informed has always felt natural to me. That upbringing sparked my curiosity about markets, economic trends, and the deals and developments shaping the financial world. I regularly read about market movements, current events, and economic developments because I find it so interesting. It is a big part of what drew me toward pursuing a career in finance in the first place, and that interest has only grown stronger as I have started building my own career in the industry.

Friends and Family

My family means the absolute world to me. I am so lucky to have the two most loving and supportive parents I could ask for. They have been married for almost 25 years and have given so much more than I could have asked for. They have shown me what it means to be a good person and be respected in life, and I try to emulate them in every single facet of my life. I also have a twin brother named Luke, who is by far the most important person in my life. Luke is autistic, and growing up alongside him, although it was difficult at times, has shaped me in ways I cannot fully put into words. He has taught me more about patience, love, and what it truly means to be a servant leader, and I would not be the person I am today without Luke. Whenever I am with him, I try to spend as much time as possible and cherish every moment we have together.

My friends also mean the world to me. I am not someone who needs a huge circle; instead, I have a few close friends whom I am incredibly loyal to and who I know would do anything for me, just as I would for them. Those kinds of friendships are rare, and I do not take them for granted.

From Inspiration to Leadership

My brother Luke is the reason why I started Go Long for Luke, which is a nonprofit dedicated to raising autism awareness and acceptance. I was only eight years old when my family and I started the organization alongside a few other partners, and what first started as a small idea grew into something far bigger than I ever could have imagined, raising over $2 million so far. Now, at 21, I run the organization completely on my own and have served as CEO for the past two years. Watching Go Long For Luke grow from a small family passion project into something that has impacted thousands of lives is my proudest accomplishment to date.

Career in Finance

Leadership at the University of Miami

Building a career in high finance has always been a dream of mine, and I am so proud of the progress I have made so far, but it is only just the beginning. Over the past few years, I have gained hands-on experience across venture capital, wealth management, and asset management, which has sharpened my skills and deepened my passion for finance. Every experience has pushed me to think more critically, work harder, and get clearer on the kind of professional I want to become. Each new exposure to the industry has made me certain that I want to have a career where I am involved in high-stakes decision-making every single day. Therefore, this summer, I am extremely excited to be in New York City to work as an Investment Banking Summer Analyst at Jefferies.

Being heavily involved on campus has been one of the best parts of my time at the University of Miami. I currently serve as the President of Alpha Kappa Psi, a professional business fraternity, where I lead a group of 250+ members by making strategic decisions across career development, community engagement, and collaboration with national leadership, while also overseeing a $70,000+ semester budget. This has been the highlight of my time at UM and has pushed me to grow as a leader in ways I never expected. Beyond that, I am also a Professional Development Student Leader (PDSL) for the Herbert Business School, where I review resumes, conduct mock interviews, and help students build the networking skills they need to launch their own careers.

A Little Bit About Me

From a baby in New York City to a college student at the University of Miami, here is a look at me growing up, the moments that shaped me, and the person I have become. 21 years of memories, growth, and people I am so grateful for.
